"You humans fight enough already without something else forcing you to."
— Stephen

Stephen is an angel that is loyal to the Powers. Like all the other angels he was expelled from Heaven thanks to Metatron orchestrating the Fall. He seems to answer directly to Abel and served as his attendant in the months before Michael's return.

After the archangel's return, Stephen was put on the trail of an odd but greatly powerful demonic presence. He tried to track it down and find the source but his investigation led him ultimately to his fate at the hands of the renegade angel Zepar.

Background[]

Stephen was a normal angelic warrior during the early days of Lucifer's rebellion and was one of the few angels that went out of their way to talk to Abel after he had been turned into an angel by Michael. He helped him in getting acclimated in his early days and the two of them eventually became friends. That friendship extended to them going to serve directly under Joseph together.

During the war in Heaven between Raphael and Castiel, he served the Powers as a spy. He reported on the archangel's true intentions and plans to Joseph while he pretended to be a loyal follower of Raphael's vision for Heaven. He managed to hide away when Castiel absorbed Purgatory's souls and escaped being massacred along with most of Raphael's followers. When the Powers learned of what Metatron was planning to do they sent a warning to Stephen who helped get his allies out of Heaven before they could suffer the Fall's full effect but still lost his wings like all the angels did.

Season 9[]

Stephen was made to be the aide to Abel along with Nathaniel as he hunted for his brother Cain. He was present when Abel killed Malachai and took control of his followers and turned their loyalty to the Powers. He continues to assist Abel in his hunt for Cain.

When Abel was recalled back to the Paradise Pavilion both he and Nathaniel returned as well to help in the preparations for Michael's return. He was part of the Powers' party to the site of Michael's freedom at Stull Cemetery. He was there to witness Daniel Leonard perform the ritual. He was in awe at the sight of Michael amongst them once more.

Season 10[]

Stephen02

Stephen meeting with Victor Morales.

Some time after Michael's return, he began restoring the wings of certain angels a few at a time starting with the Powers. Stephen became one of the first few to have their wings restored after them.

Stephen answered a prayer on the Powers' behalf that was made by Victor Morales of the Battalion. He was investigating a homicide in Detroit that pointed to a powerful demon being involved but the circumstances were unusual for any demon attack he'd heard of before. Stephen arrived and took a moment to offer sympathies to Victor for the loss of his friend Logan Donovan before he took a look. He examined a hole that a demon emerged from and sensed a great deal of demonic energy, so much that Stephen was stunned into silence. He told Victor to continue his investigation while he reported back to the Powers.

Stephen01

Stephen facing down Zepar before fighting to the death

Stephen had been busy trying to track the source of the unusual demonic activity from before when he followed the trail leading him to a small mob of humans that were trying to tear each other apart with their bare hands. He quickly moved to knock each of the humans out one by one with a touch to their foreheads. He then knelt over one and looked into the human's mind where he detected traces of demonic power which had been influencing him. He then stood and let his eyes glow blue as he sent out a telepathic message to Abel. However, he was interrupted by the arrival of Zepar. The renegade went and mockingly asked why he had to cut the brawl short before it could get good. Stephen told him that a knife match would be more interesting before he drew out his angel blade. Zepar smirked at him before drawing his own and said that Stephen was right. They then fought against each other but he was ultimately killed by the renegade.

After his death, Abel and Daniel Leonard had come to follow up and learn that the trail Stephen had been following was the work of hybrid Malphas, who was now free from Hell. Abel was hurt seeing the body of his friend and Malphas was able to tap into that pain to try and let him succumb to his rage, until Daniel Leonard was able to somehow heal the angel of the hybrid's influence. Even weeks afterwards, Abel still has some trouble thinking of one of the only real friends he made in Heaven after his conversion.

Personality[]

Stephen seems to fit in what Abel refers to him as a "good and noble soldier". He was good enough to be brought in to directly serve under an archangel such as Raphael, even though he served as a spy for the Powers. When Michael was told that Stephen was on Malphas' trail, he seemed confident of the angel's ability, hinting that Stephen has a reliable reputation. Stephen also proved himself brave as he was quick to challenge a renegade as renowned as Zepar, fighting him to the death.

He also seems to have a compassionate side for humans. Stephen was one of the only angels that went out of their way to make Abel feel welcomed when he made the transition from human to angel and ended up striking a friendship with him that carried on to the present day. When Stephen arrived at the scene of the riot, he immediately moved to knock out all the humans to try and keep them from killing each other. He also seemed to be versed in sympathy as he was quick to offer condolences to Victor Morales on Logan Donovan's death before he moved to work.

Powers and Abilities[]

Stephen possesses all the standard powers and abilities of a normal angel though seems to be exceptionally skilled given that he serves directly under Abel before and after his ascension into the Powers.

  • Super Strength: Stephen is stronger than a human being as well as the average demon. He was able to hold his own against an angel as powerful as Zepar for a while in combat.
  • Teleportation: Through the use of his wings, Stephen is able to instantly transport himself from place to place. After the Fall, he lost his wings but they were restored by Michael, allowing him to regain the ability.
  • Angel Blade: Stephen is armed with a standard angel blade which allows him to fight and kill demons and angels.
  • Touch Sedation: By touching a human at their temple, Stephen is quickly able to render them unconscious for a small time.
  • Telepathy: Stephen was able to look into a human's mind and pick up on the demonic mark that had been left in them. He is also able to physically communicate with his angelic superiors.

Trivia[]

Stephen's name means wealth, reward  or literally that which surrounds or emcompasses.
